Assessing 21st Century Skills to Maximize Student Readiness for Higher Education and Careers

This webinar will explore the changes implicit in focusing middle and high school education on 21st century skills. It will provide definitions of 21st century skills, and explain their implications for standards, curriculum, instruction, and school design. Presenters include Robert Anderson, Senior Assessment Specialist at WestEd, and Bernie Trilling, Global Director at Oracle Education Foundation and author of 21st Century Skills: Learning for Life in Our Times.Trilling will provide an overview of a framework developed by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) and will explain the three main categories of 21st Century Skills: learning and innovations skills; digital literacy skills; and life and career skills. Trilling will also provide a model for how these skills can be embedded into instruction.
Anderson will describe how assessment and accountability systems will need to be modified to measure these skills and explain how these skills link to post-K–12 success.
The webinar will include ample opportunities for audience members to interact with the speakers.
