The Disease That Doesn’t Have to Happen Reversing the Diabetes Epidemic

(www1.gotomeeting.com)

Kirk Hamilton, PA-C discusses adult onset diabetes. It is occurring in epidemic proportions worldwide as cultures adopt the Western lifestyle. Even grade school children in the U.S. are developing adult onset diabetes. This disease is a silent killer leading to heart disease, hypertension, vision loss, painful neurologic conditions, hospitalization, and premature death. The economic cost to you, our government, and the world is enormous.

Most all of adult onset diabetes is preventable and reversible with an aggressive whole food, plant-based diet and exercise program that leads to weight normalization. The “carbohydrate myth” that carbs cause diabetes will be expelled. The concept of ‘intramyocellular” lipid accumulation (fat in the cell) and how this effects insulin resistance will be discussed. How more healthy mitochondria (carburetors/engines within the cell) are needed for healthy blood sugar control, and how they are inhibited by high fat diets and lack of exercise will be simply explained. Simple diet and exercise strategies could save billions of dollars in personal and total health-care cost, not to mention the long-term suffering from this condition. Type II diabetes is truly "the epidemic" that doesn't have to happen!

These principles will also help Type I, or insulin dependent diabetics, have better blood sugar control, reduce insulin need and reduce their risk to the long-term adverse health effects of diabetes, which can be debilitating. The vitamin D and cow’s milk theories on prevention of type I diabetes will be explored.
