Ready, Set, Comply! Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 ("GINA") Webinar

This webinar will provide an overview of the regulations implementing the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 ("GINA") and the new notification of breach requirement under HIPAA. GINA prohibits discrimination in the provision of health coverage and in employment on the basis of genetic information. GINA also limits the extent to which genetic information, which includes family medical history, can be collected. GINA’s restrictions mean that entities will have to take a hard look at their policies and “health risk assessments”, in particular, to determine if they pass muster under the new law. This session will also update participants on potential restrictions for incentives for participating on completion of a health assessment.

The webinar will also focus on the new notification of breach requirement under HIPAA. In certain instances, health plans and healthcare providers will be required to notify affected individuals, the Department of Health and Human Services and the media if protected health information is breached. We will focus on what triggers the notification obligation, the nuts-and-bolts of providing the notification, and what policies and procedures should be implemented to comply with this requirement."

Formal presentations will be followed by a 15-20 minutes of Q&A to answer your questions.
